Album Review: Wonk Unit - Terror (Plasterer)

Artist: Wonk Unit Title: Terror Label: Plasterer Release Date: 20/04/2018 Wonk Unit are without a doubt one of the UK's hardest working bands in the DIY scene at the moment and when they're not on the road (which is often) then they are in the studio penning down tracks for a new release (or building a pool in the backyard to shred on) which also makes up the lovely front cover.

I first met the mastermind behind Wonk Unit, Frontman Alex around 10 years ago at The Maze in Nottingham with my band 'Officer Down' its hard to believe they supported us a few times as they were a way better band than us even all those years ago. This was around the time of the 'Flying The Japanese Flag' release forward to 2018 and we have Wonk's 6th album 'Terror' and for this album they have left TNS Records and it is released on Alex's own Plasterer Records. The album is full of powerful anthems from start to finish starting with 'Day Job Wanker' reminding all the creative types of times where they're told its not going to work and to stick to a normal job.

Lyrically the songs for the most are stories giving you an incite into the frontman's life, the past as a drug addict missing his family in the new xmas classic 'Christmas In A Crackhouse' and the faster punk reprise 'Me And Kurtis' to the present where the dark times are behind him and things are moving forward with love, family and confidence in 'Hope', 'Safe Place' and 'Faith'.

There are songs driven by keys in 'Flummoxed More Than Jealous' which is mashup of different styles/tempos and songs with excellent hi-hat work from Tommy in 'As The Rest Of The World Sleeps'. We even get a little reggae number thrown into the mix called 'Thank You' originally 'Ode To Summer' from the previous album 'Mr Splashy'. There are a great mixture of songs here for everyone to enjoy on the masterpiece that is 'Terror' and its gets better with every listen.

You can pick up Terror now on CD or Black Vinyl from here or there will be a limited Blue Vinyl version available at gigs from June
