Album Review: NOFX - Ribbed: Live In A Dive (Fat Wreck)
Artist: NOFX Title: Ribbed: Live In A Dive Label: Fat Wreck Release Date: 03/08/2018
Its been 27 years since 'Ribbed' originally came out on the then premier punk label Epitaph Records and I think most people would agree that this is still one of NOFX best records to date. Roll on to 2018 and FAT have re-released the record as part of a rebooted 'Live In A Dive' series, this was a long time coming since this was recorded way back in 2012 in what i'm guessing was a belated 20th anniversary of the original.
It is NOFX third live offering and if you 'Heard They Suck Live' or think 'They've Actually Gotten Worse Live' then you would be wrong, In fact 'Ribbed: Live In A Dive' isn't to far off being flawless and has been played perfectly and true to the original recordings musically but with Fat Mike being a much better singer than he was in the early 90's the vocals are delivered with more dynamics and the three part harmonies sound way more melodic compared to that of the raw/gruff sounding studio counterpart. This is a great addition to the NOFX live catalogue and I would love to see them do the same for some of their other records from the 90's, notably 'White Trash, Two Heebs And A Bean', 'So Long And Thanks For All The Shoes' and obviously the 94 classic 'Punk In Drublic'
