Album Review: Astpai - True Capacity (Shield Recordings)
Artist: Astpai Title: True Capacity Label: Shield /Jump Start Release Date: 22/06/2018 I am not too familiar with this band the only release I have ever listened to/have is the split 7" they did back in 2011 with The Flatliners. This is the 5th studio album from Astpai who hail from Wiener Neustadt, Austria and these guys have been kicking it since 2001 so I have no idea how I have never properly given these guys a listen, but after spinning this it's given me a feeling of 'why the hell have I not given these guys a chance before' The split they did obviously made a huge impact on the direction that they have taken over the years and in places the melodies and vocals on this record are reminiscent to that of The Flatliners especially in songs such as 'Lottery', 'Falling Trees' and 'No Hero' this is probably no surprising as they have enlisted Chris Cresswell as vocal producer for this record. There are a bunch of great tracks on this release including the opener 'Rotten Bait' and the great guitar melodies on 'Feel Your Pain' but the stand out is the title track 'True Capacity' which is the hardest hitting cut mixing shouty vocals and distorted bass with heavy riffs creating a nice change in comparison to the most part of the record. With only 10 tracks it leaves you wanting a little more but the album is a great addition to the genre.
'True Capacity' is available on all formats through Jump Start Records/ Shield Recordings. PRESSING INFO: 200 x Clear mixed with black vinyl 300 x Black vinyl 10 x Testpress (Black w. white labels) 300 x Blue mixed with black vinyl
